An RTA education is designed to give our children the finest blend in education–the best in academics in a nurturing Jewish environment. Giving our students literacy in multiple languages (English and Hebrew) and Jewish wisdom complements and enhances their educational growth in core academic and socio-emotional learning. Students leave RTA with the analytical skills necessary to succeed in a competitive high school setting.

RTA teaches the whole child, inspiring a thirst for knowledge and wisdom that is intellectual, ethical, and spiritual. In addition to providing a strong Jewish and General education, the school offers students the opportunity to engage in enriching extracurricular, after-school, and arts programming.

RTA is the place where every child seeking a Jewish connection is made to feel at home, where students and families come from all Jewish backgrounds, and where all of our students and families feel engaged, respected, and appreciated.

Established in 1966, RTA has enriched the lives of over 1,500 alumni with an outstanding dual curriculum. Currently, it serves a student body of about 100 children from grades K through 8. RTA graduates are superbly prepared to meet the challenges of the modern world and have a well-deserved reputation in the community as independent thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and leaders of their peers.

RTA develops our next generation of young Jewish learners and thinkers through an enriching educational program that aspires to integrate robust Torah and General studies. RTA is dedicated to teaching each student at their academic level; our rigorous dual curriculum instills a lifelong Jewish identity. It prepares our students well for high school, college, and beyond, and our graduates compare very favorably with those of other private schools in Virginia.

In addition, initial enrollment at the Rudlin Torah Academy can occur at any grade level, regardless of a student’s previous educational background or Jewish knowledge. The school is committed to providing individual attention to bring children up to grade level and to make or to making other adjustments to allow the students to achieve at their highest academic level.

We demonstrate in our educational program that every single child has a unique educational receptivity. Classes are structured by capability when necessary, but the ideal is for all children to progress as a whole. All of our pupils learn that they have something valuable and meaningful to contribute to the classroom community, with every student possessing the ability to express the very question or to provide the needed insight to open the way to a deeper level of thought for all.  Our students learn that academic strengths can vary, and that creativity and diverse opinions are essential to tackling the big questions and engaging in critical thought.

RTA imbues each student with traditional Torah values, inspired Jewish learning, a love of the Jewish people, and an appreciation for the Land of Israel.

RTA’s entire education is provided within a halachic framework, seeking to develop ovedei Hashem – G-d conscious individuals, who are confident and prepared to take on life. RTA students learn how to read, translate and analyze central Torah texts from Chumash to Gemara, while being encouraged to ask questions, promoting a deep curiosity and pursuit of wisdom.

Recognizing the significance of our identity as part of Am Yisrael, we seek to instill in our students an attachment to the State of Israel and its people and a sense of responsibility for their welfare. In so doing, RTA provides instruction and learning opportunities to advance Hebrew textual and language skills.

RTA students become wholesome contributors to society through our curricular focus on developing reading, writing, math, science, civics, and history.

At RTA, our teachers develop meaningful relationships with our students and advance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in and out of the classroom. Our small class and school size afford us the opportunity for interdisciplinary educational learning.

As an integral part of the student’s overall educational enterprise, hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge are integrated. Teachers utilize multimodal media, including SmartBoards, videos, skits, plays, games, music, role-playing, arts and crafts, puppets, and centers, to maximize learning for all students.

RTA students engage in their education beyond the classroom.

Students are welcomed to Shabbatons with their teachers, building and decorating a sukkah, reliving the experience of the exodus from Egypt through a model seder, blowing the shofar on Rosh Hashanah, lighting the chanukiya on Chanukah, and fulfilling all the Purim commandments and festivities together in school.

Additionally, students foster their creative energy through music, art, physical education, and a host of extracurricular activities to enhance the totality of their experience at RTA.

  • In art, children engage in painting, drawing, crafts, and all forms of hands-on art projects, integrating this with knowledge of famous artists and their chief contributions.

  • In music, younger children learn the fundamentals, while children in the older grades learn how to play their instruments.

  • In physical education, our students combine fun with skill-building and teamwork in a wide array of sports and activities.

After-school activities and clubs have included: Science Enrichment, Drama, Gymnastics, Soccer, Art Enrichment, Basketball, Conversational Spanish, Chess & Karate, among others.
